The School of Dentistry welcomed the DDS Class of 2030, Dental Therapy Class of 2029 and Dental Hygiene Class of 2028 to campus for orientation on August 12-13.

Learners gathered together to connect, explore opportunities at the school and hear important information as they prepare to start their first semester.

Interim Dean Kristin Artinger, PhD, welcomed students to the school and to their future careers. “Today, you begin your journey as oral health professionals,” she said. “You’ll work together to maintain healthy and happy mouths and promote overall health. You will advocate for the importance of oral health care, and you’ll be a vital member of the health care team.”

Students heard from representatives from the Office of Admissions, who shared their congratulations to the class and their gratitude for students’ participation in the admissions process.

“This is one of the best parts of my job, when I get to see you join the school and continue on your journey,” shared Chris Held, MEd, admissions counselor. “From around 1,900 applications, 105 of you will become part of the DDS Class of 2030. We also saw significant applications for the Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene classes. Thank you for taking this journey with us.”

Following presentations on guidelines, schedules and academic success, students enjoyed an involvement fair, where they explored the various clubs, volunteering opportunities and student groups available to them, before connecting with current students and faculty over lunch.

Students then enjoyed tours of the school from current students.

On the second day of orientation, students gained additional knowledge about resources, student life and mental health care. Following a lunch break, they engaged in teambuilding activities led by Playfair. Through games, icebreakers and other activities, students got to know one another and connected with each other.
