Celebrating a commitment to professionalism

DDS Class of 2020 takes their oath

First-year dental, dental therapy and dental hygiene students were welcomed to the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry on September 16, 2016, at Northrop Auditorium at a White Coat Ceremony.

In the clinic setting, professional attire evokes the trust and respect of patients. The White Coat ceremony impresses upon future practitioners the significance of that trusting relationship and celebrates their commitment to the goals of professionalism, ethical practice, scientific and technical expertise, and compassionate service to others.

Dr. Keith Mays, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, hosted the event, which featured 110 DDS students, 24 BSDH students and six MDT students. Dr. Todd Thierer, Acting Dean of the School of Dentistry and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, and Dr. Barbara Brandt, Academic Health Center Associate Vice President for Education, greeted the students.

Dr. Melissa Zettler (Class of 1995) served as keynote speaker.
