Waite Lectureship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) has provided leading practitioners, researchers, and scholars the unique opportunity to present and analyze transformational concepts. The 2021 program features Dr. Janice Lee, our keynote speaker, discussing current NIH work in 3D orthognathic imaging and prediction modeling. The day includes discussions on workforce inclusivity, as well as a showcase of recent innovation and research by the leaders and residents representing the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Gundersen Health System, and Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Keynote Speaker

Janice Lee, DDS, MD, MS, is the Clinical Director of Craniofacial Anomalies and Regeneration Section within the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). Before arriving at the NIDCR, Dr. Lee was Professor of Clinical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Departmental Vice-Chair in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Lee earned a DDS and an MS from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry, and an MD from Harvard Medical School. She completed her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University and a two-year research fellowship in NIDCR's Craniofacial and Skeletal Diseases Branch. Dr. Lee's clinical practice focused on the craniofacial skeletal reconstruction of cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies, especially hemifacial microsomia. In addition, she has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, dozens of abstracts and poster presentations, and several book chapters.

The Waite Lectureship was established in honor of Dr. Daniel E. Waite, former department chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. The Lectureship is designed to provide residents in advanced educational programs in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic, and Gunderson Clinic, an opportunity to hear current thought leaders in their field.

This event is a collaboration among the Minnesota Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Mayo Clinic Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Daniel E. Waite Endowment—University of Minnesota Foundation, and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
