A unique School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education course supported by the Minnesota Department of Health is giving dental providers insight into the interprofessional nature and value of specialty geriatric care.

“Are we there yet?” It’s a question every parent has heard on a car ride. And now, it’s a question dental experts are asking when it comes to the inclusion of various forms of technology in dental education and practice. It’s also the question Cortino Sukotjo, DDS, PhD, MMSc, FACP, director of the predoctoral implant program at the University of Illinois-Chicago sought to answer in regards to virtual and augmented reality. He explored the question at a Digital Grand Rounds presentation on Wednesday, March 16th.

The 18th annual Research Day at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, held Friday, March 4, brought together experts across disciplines from the University of Minnesota and beyond to discuss cutting-edge discoveries in oral biology, cancer treatment and prevention and more. 

Engaging students, Mahrous explained, happens when we embrace technological advancements and provide visually engaging material. “That’s how I try to teach,” he explained. And that’s what he explained in the first Digital Grand Rounds event of this year’s series, held virtually on January 26.
