Nearly 400 students, staff and faculty volunteers were on-hand to welcome 143 children and their families to the School of Dentistry's Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) event on February 4, 2017. Now in its 13th year at the dental school, the student-organized event provides much-needed care for children who've had difficulty accessing dental services. It also connects these children and their familiaies with U-M Dental Clinics as a dental 'home' for ongoing oral health care needs.
Every child received an examination, treatment plan and as-appropriate radiographs, preventive and operative services, which were prioritized to address the most critical needs first.
Congratulations to event co-chairs (and third-year dental students) Karin Englund, Kaitlyn Laurer and Mehrdad Hairani, and to all of the volunteers who helped make the GKAS 2017 possible.
