Arriving at Alta airport, far beyond the Arctic Circle, the Norwegian Adventures representative will greet you and bring you to Sorrisniva Arctic Wilderness Lodge - a small property with only 24 rooms located outside Alta in a pine forest on the banks of the famous Alta River.
The Wilderness Lodge accommodations include comfortable double rooms with a private balcony overlooking the river and the beautiful arctic wilderness.
Having enjoyed a delicious four-course dinner, it is dark, and your private expert guide will pick you up at the hotel and take you on a "Chasing the Northern Lights Safari." Your guide will take you to the places with the most favorable weather conditions, and the chances are best to watch this incredible natural phenomenon. Around midnight your guide will bring you back to the lodge.
SEPTEMBER 14, 2023
After breakfast, your private expert guides will meet you outside your lodge and take you on a great experience in Alta's untouched nature: a riverboat trip on the majestic Alta River – one of the world’s most famous salmon fishing rivers.
You will start outside the hotel as the guides walk you over to the boats on the shore. After a short introduction and safety briefing, you will go on board and embark on an expedition up the Alta River. Please note this is not a white water rafting experience - the Alta river is not that wild!
This boating adventure takes you through the lower reaches of the picturesque valley of "Altadalen" and the Alta River. Coniferous and broadleaf forests dominate the landscape and cultural and agricultural areas. Cruising in a river boat provides a close-up encounter with the animal life, such as white-tailed sea eagles, various duck species, and, if you're lucky, the king of the forest, the moose.
En route, you will be able to enjoy the fantastic scenery. As you learn about Lapland and its indigenous people - the Sami tribe - you will also learn about the salmon fisheries and how people have lived in this part of Norway for centuries.
In the afternoon, you will return to the lodge in time for a late lunch served in the main restaurant. The rest of the afternoon will be at your leisure.
The hotel's restaurant will serve your dinner around 7 PM. After dinner, your private guide will pick you up at the hotel and take you on another
"Chasing the Northern Lights Safari." Around midnight your guide will bring you back to your hotel.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2023
After breakfast at the lodge, you have two choices on how you want to explore the beautiful Arctic wilderness in autumn colors: mountain biking or hiking.
You will be transferred to an activity center to pick up your high-quality, full-suspension bike. Your guide will make any necessary adjustments to your bike; then, you'll be off to the rendezvous place to start your adventure. You'll experience beautiful views, and the best paths, trails, and gravel roads offered in the Alta Valley. En route, you will be served a light, warm picnic lunch sitting around the open fire. After the bike ride, your guide will bring you back to the lodge in Alta in the afternoon.
Your private guide will pick you up and drive you to the starting point for the hike. The guide will adapt the day to the weather and your fitness level. The journey goes to "Little Raipas" (215 m.s.l.). As you walk on gravel roads and hiking trails, your guide will talk about the old mining industry in these mountains and its significance for those living in Alta today.
As you reach the top and admire the magnificent views of the Alta valley and Alta river, your guide will prepare a light meal for you to enjoy outside while he tells you more about the rich history of Alta. After the hike, your guide will drive you back to your hotel.
You will enjoy another delicious dinner in the hotel's dining room in the evening. After dinner, your private guide will pick you up for another "Chasing the Northern Lights" tour. Return to your lodge around midnight.
