Travel and Learn 2023: Norway and Optional Chasing the Northern Lights Safari Trip Extension

Known for remarkable landscapes and joyous, social people, we'll travel through Norway's best. Our pace of travel will give you time to absorb the wild settings and quirky cities, moving from the iconic to the unexpected without rushing. Peppered around fjords, glaciers, lakes, natural fortresses, and coastal islands, we will find cities that sparkle with Nordic charm. You'll have the opportunity to extend your travel with a Northern Lights Safari. Whether a dental provider or a healthcare professional, you and your guests gain valuable insights through breakfast seminars presented by Drs. Angie and Scott Rake, University of Minnesota oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and hand-selected Norwegian culture and healthcare presenters.

Sunday, September 10

Today we will head northeast out of Bergen, encountering our first of many Fjords on our way to the port of Gudvangen on the stunning Naeröyfjord. Those who elected to participate in the RIB boating experience will suit up and prepare for this two-hour expedition while the rest of the group will enjoy more scenery along the drive to the Skjolden Hotel.

Monday, September 11

Pack your water bottle and your gloves – you’re going to need them! Today we will be hiking to the Nigardsbreen Glacier, and those who are feeling a little more adventurous will have the opportunity to go rappelling into its icy blue crevasses.

Tuesday, September 12

Travel along the Sognefjord to the ancient Urnes Stave Church, one of many UNESCO World Heritage Sites you will get to witness on this trip. After an expertly guided tour, the group will board a small ferry to the village of Solvorn, from which you will spend the day navigating alongside the world’s longest and deepest fjord before it transforms into majestic mountains. After a day of driving and boating, you will rest your feet for the night at the stunning Hotel Union Geiranger.

Wednesday, September 13

Enjoy your surroundings in untouched nature or book a treatment at the hotel’s world-class spa for a relaxing morning retreat. We will check out of the hotel and take one last scenic drive on the infamous Eagle’s Road. A ferry will transport you to the port town of Aalesund, where your flight to Oslo awaits. After landing in Oslo, you will be taken to the city’s best hotel: Hotel Continental, located perfectly in the heart of the Norwegian capital. Enjoy dinner and the city at your leisure for the evening.

The new Opera House, 14th century Akershus Castle, and elegant Royal palace are sure to delight. Those stops are only just the beginning, as you will also have the opportunity to walk among the Vigeland Sculpture Park and Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. After a two-course lunch, you will be able to spend the afternoon exploring at your leisure.
