Jorge Perdigao-Henriques, DMD, MS, PhD

Dr. Perdigão received his DMD degree from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1985. In 1992 he finished a Master's degree in Operative Dentistry from the University of Iowa, and in 1993 he received a Certificate degree in Operative Dentistry also from the University of Iowa. In 1995 Dr. Perdigão defended his PhD dissertation in Dental Materials at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. His academic career started at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Perdigão served as an Associate Professor of Operative Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1996 to 1999 and is currently Professor of Operative Dentistry at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Perdigão is involved in research of new dentin adhesives, composite resins, and dental whitening. Dr. Perdigão has delivered over 280 lectures in Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America and has published over 180 scientific articles in international journals. He has also authored several chapters on dental adhesion in several textbooks, including the Sturdevant's Art and Science of Operative Dentistry (Elsevier). He is editor and author of the books Restoration of Root Canal-Treated Teeth: An Adhesive Dentistry Perspective and Tooth Whitening: An Evidence-Based Perspective (Springer). Dr. Perdigão has received several research awards, including the 1993 Microscopy Society of America Presidential Award, the 2017 IADR Dental Materials Group Peyton-Skinner Award for Innovation and the 2021 Honorary Membership of the International Academy of Adhesive Dentistry. In 2015 he was named the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry's Century Club Professor of the Year.

Dr. Perdigão is Associate Editor in the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry. He is currently member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Dentistry, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B, and Pediatric Dentistry. He has been a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Perdigão has been a consultant for several manufacturers worldwide in the development of new adhesive dental materials and has served as a mentor to numerous postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. Dr. Perdigão has served as a consultant to the ADA Committee for Scientific Affairs from 1999 to 2015 and to the FDA Dermatologic & Ophthalmic Advisory Committee from 2006 to 2017. He is currently a member of the joint AADR and IADR Publications Committee.
