Jeffrey Karp, DMD, MS, became Interim Director of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry effective Monday, January 15. Dean Keith Mays, DDS, MS, PhD, announced the role transition in an email to faculty and staff on January 11.

Karp received his BS in biochemistry from Muhlenberg College and his DMD from Temple University School of Dentistry. He completed his pediatric dentistry residency at The Ohio State University and Columbus Children’s Hospital, along with a Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry. Karp is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Karp is the director of the Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the School of Dentistry and a clinical associate professor of pediatric dentistry. Karp is a member of the active medical staff at the M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.  Karp also currently serves as the Chair of the Section on Oral Health at the American Academy of Pediatrics. Karp will continue in his role as director of the Advanced Education Program, as well as serving as the Interim Director of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry.

Brent Larson, DDS, MS

Karp takes on the role as Brent Larson, DDS, MS, steps down from the role. Larson has held the interim position since Soraya Beiraghi, BS, DDS, MSD, MS, stepped down from the role in August. Larson will continue in his roles as Interim Department Chair for Developmental and Surgical Sciences, and director of the Division of Orthodontics.

“Please join me in thanking Dr. Larson for his service, and welcoming Dr. Karp into this role,” Mays shared in his email to staff and faculty.

Additional information regarding a search for the permanent director of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry will be made available in the future.
