Biography

Bio

Dr. WookJin Seong is a tenured Associate Professor in the Division of Prosthodontics, Department of Restorative Sciences, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota. He started his academic career in 1999 and was board-certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics in 2000. He is currently responsible for dental students’ implant prosthodontics preclinical and clinical instructions as well as residents’ seminars and clinical instructions. He has served as division director from 2014-2018.

Dr. Seong earned his MS degree in dental implants in 2000. He received a Ph.D degree in 2006 in the area of biomechanics with oral biology major and biomedical engineering minor. His research area covers healing bone-implant interface characterization, intervention of peri-implantitis, implant bone cement, animal studies, and clinical trials.

Dr. Seong is participating in various committees on research, clinic, and curriculum. Dr. Seong also serves the public by practicing prosthodontics including dental implants in the Faculty Practice Clinic (612-626-3233) located at the dental school.

Mechanical properties of jaw bone using various techniques including nano-indentation; Fiber reinforced bone cement development; Quantification of bone density using various diagnostic tools; Implant stability measurement tests and bone/implant interface analyses; Animal study and clinical trials on dental implants and bone replacement materials; Device fabrication using MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems); Dental materials/ Prosthodontics study
