Jorge Perdigao-Henriques, DMD, MS, PhD

Dr. Perdigão received his DMD from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, School of Dental Medicine in 1985, his Master of Science and Certificate in Operative Dentistry from the University of Iowa in 1993 and a PhD in Dental Materials at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, in 1995.

Dr. Perdigão joined the University of Minnesota in 1999 after serving as an instructor, assistant professor and associate professor at the University of Lisbon, University of Coimbra and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He spent nine years as an associate professor before becoming a full professor of operative dentistry in 2008.

Dr. Perdigão is involved in research of new dentin adhesives, composite resins, and dental whitening. Dr. Perdigão has delivered over 280 lectures in Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America and has published over 180 scientific articles in international journals. He has also authored several chapters on dental adhesion in several textbooks, including the Sturdevant's Art and Science of Operative Dentistry (Elsevier). He is editor and author of the books Restoration of Root Canal-Treated Teeth: An Adhesive Dentistry Perspective and Tooth Whitening: An Evidence-Based Perspective (Springer). Dr. Perdigão has received several research awards, including the 2017 IADR Dental Materials Group Peyton-Skinner Award for Innovation and the 2021 Honorary Membership of the International Academy of Adhesive Dentistry. In 2015 he was named the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry's Century Club Professor of the Year.

Dr. Perdigão is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Dentistry, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B, Pediatric Dentistry and Journal of Functional Biomaterials. He has been a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals for many years.

Dr. Perdigão has consulted for manufacturers worldwide in the development of new adhesive dental materials, as well as for the ADA Committee for Scientific Affairs and the FDA Dermatologic & Ophthalmic Advisory Committee. His teaching focuses on operative dentistry, dental materials and esthetic dentistry.
