Connecting, learning and supporting one another

Sarah Beck is all about connections. She loves spending time with her friends, making wedding and birthday cakes. She even bakes for competition--winning a few ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair--but her favorite thing is to bake for her loved ones.

It is no surprise, then, that her time at the School of Dentistry has been centered around people. “My favorite thing about the School of Dentistry is easily the people,” she explained. “The people I work with on a daily basis here, whether it’s classmates, faculty, or staff, are so kind and welcoming.”

Beck loves the community of welcoming people she has found at the School of Dentistry, particularly appreciating their support in difficult or stressful times. “There are so many people here who are always willing to help and support you during your time in dental school, which makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable and memorable.”

Another important aspect for Beck is mentorship: that is why she recommends any student considering attending the School of Dentistry reach out and speak with a current student. “I cannot stress how nice it can be to have a one-on-one conversation with someone who is currently going through their education here at the U of M,” she said. “It gives you the opportunity to ask all of your questions. Then, if you decide to attend the U of M, you have already built a connection with a current student!”
