Karen K. Daw, MBA, CECM, is an award-winning national speaker, author of numerous articles and CE courses on safety in dentistry, and a trainer for practices and healthcare systems across the country. She earned her BA from the Ohio State University and her MBA, concentrating on Healthcare Administration and Business Management. After graduating, Karen the Emergency Department recruited her to serve as Assistant Director of Sterilization Monitoring and Health and Safety Director for the OSU College of Dentistry. Karen is a proud member of the Organization for Safety Asepsis and Prevention, where she also served as co-chair for their Annual Conference and Infection Control Boot Camp.
Laurence Gaalaas, DDS, MS, is an Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in the Division of Oral Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Gaalaas received his undergraduate education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, his dental degree from the University of Minnesota, and completed specialty training and a Master of Science degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a researcher and inventor, his experience includes advanced graphical analysis of images derived from dental imaging modalities, caries detection and diagnosis, contrast performance evaluation of clinical x-ray imaging systems, and the development of novel imaging techniques specific to dentistry. He is a member of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and has ongoing teaching responsibilities plus an active radiology practice through the University of Minnesota.
Bryan Laskin, DDS, graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and is currently Senior Vice President of Innovation for Dental Care Alliance and leads Lake Minnetonka Dental. Dr. Laskin is the founder of Operability, developer of game-changing technologies including the communication suite OperaDDS, as well as the first system to virtually reduce dental pain and anxiety—OperaVR. He serves as counsel for the most innovative dental companies, enjoys bringing others' transformational ideas to dentistry, and is an active member of the American Dental Association, Minnesota Dental Association, and Minneapolis District Dental Society. Dr. Laskin also hosts The Operatory Podcast. His new book, "The Patient First Manifesto,” was released earlier in 2021.
Christopher Michaelson, PhD, is the Opus Distinguished Professor of Principled Leadership and the Academic Director of the Melrose and The Toro Company Center for Principled Leadership at the University of St. Thomas. In 1997, he helped launch a business ethics advisory practice, which became part of a global risk consulting network in New York. A few years into his consulting career, Christopher took a full-time lectureship at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania while keeping a foot in private practice. In 2005, he joined the Business and Society faculty of the New York University Stern School of Business. He came to St. Thomas in 2008 and is also an affiliate faculty member of the University of Minnesota's Center for Bioethics.
